Now that school is back in full-swing, weekend schedules are getting crowded. This past weekend I planned to attend the annual Electricity Fair in Folsom and California’s Day of Preparedness in Old Sacramento and didn’t get to either one thanks to family errands that ate up our time. I did scratch out time to sift through my school and personal e-mails, though, and create a list of interesting opportunities.
- The Mariposa Chamber of Commerce emailed to say Highway 140 into Yosemite National Park is open with no restrictions now. PG&E finished rebuilding the power lines in the park earlier than expected. Check with the chamber for fun things to do on the way to Yosemite.
- The deadline for CHS Foundation classroom grants is Sept. 15. Fifteen $500 grants are available nationwide to teachers of grades K-12 with agriculture-related projects. The National Agriculture in the Classroom Organization partners on this grant.
- The National Agriculture in the Classroom conference is in Little Rock, Arkansas June 18-21, 2019. Workshop proposals are due by Oct. 5.
- The California Education and Environment Initiative is offering free curriculum.
- The California Foundation for Agriculture in the Classroom conference is in Palm Springs Sept. 27-29. CFAITC also has a list of grants available on its website and a bunch of resources for school gardening, including a planting guide.
- The California Museum in Sacramento is hosting Sept. 22 a free Smithsonian Magazine Museum Day with advance registration. Information on school field trips and standards-aligned curriculum are also available on the museum website.

- Little Big Horn College in Crow Agency, Montana invites the public to a symposium 14-15 on “Treaties that Live: Historical Symposium for the Sesquicentennial (150 Years) of the Crow (Apsaalooke) Treaties of 1868 at Fort Laramie, Wyoming, and Fort Hawley, Montana.”
Project Learning Tree has grants available. Deadline is Sept. 30. PLT also offers trainings in outdoor education.
